SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball
team split two matches to earn second place in the Silver Division
of the Hall of Fame Tournament on Saturday. The Polar Bears bounced
Bridgewater State 3-0 before falling to Middlebury for the second
time in as many weeks, 3-2. Bowdoin stands at 18-9 overall this
season.
The Polar Bears cruised past Bridgewater in their early match,
25-14, 25-17, 25-9. Gillian Page notched a dozen kills to go with
two aces. Kristin Hanczor buried seven kills in support.
Against Middlebury, Bowdoin played another valiant match, but
dropped a 25-19, 25-12, 22-25, 17-25, 15-10 decision. Page
collected 18 kills while Hanczor earned nine kills and five blocks.
Stephanie Bond had 29 assists in the loss.
Bowdoin will look to position themselves for postseason play with a
pair of NESCAC matches at Amherst next weekend. The Polar Bears
(4-4 NESCAC), who currently stand in a sixth-place tie with Trinity
in the conference, will play the Bantams on Saturday afternoon.
Bowdoin will also play third-place Amherst on Friday evening.
