HARTFORD, Conn. - Rookie Zach Ostrup and junior goalkeeper Dan
Hicks each scored their first collegiate goal to lead the Bowdoin
College men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Trinity College
Saturday on Campus Field. Trinity, ranked No. 11 in the nation,
falls to 10-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the league and has its
five-game winning streak snapped, while Bowdoin improves to 9-3-1
and 4-3-1 in the NESCAC.
Ostrup scored the eventual game-winner in the 35th minute of the
game, which, thanks to Hicks, was all the Polar Bears would
need.
In perhaps the most critical moment of the game, Hicks made a
diving save on a penalty shot after a handball inside the box was
called against the Polar Bears. Bowdoin's netminder deflected the
shot high and to the right to preserve a 1-0 lead late with under
ten minutes to play. Moments later, Hicks took advantage of a slick
field with a long distance goal of his own, scoring on a free kick
that bounced over the head of Trinity sophomore goalkeeper Grant
Schonberg, who misjudged the boot.
Hicks finished the game with seven saves for his sixth shutout of
the season. Schonberg made three saves for the Bantams.
