FARMINGTON, Maine - Eleven different players scored as the
Bowdoin College women's basketball cruised to their seventh
straight win, 78-41 over the University of Maine Farmington on
Tuesday evening. The Polar Bears (10-2) held their opponent under
45 points for the fourth time in their last five games and will
travel to play at Bates on Thursday night.
Sabrina Cote paced Bowdoin with 17 points as the Polar Bears
used a pair of runs in the opening half to distance themselves from
the Beavers. Alexa Kaubris scored nine points in the win and
spearheaded the defense with four steals as Farmington was held to
22.6 percent shooting (seven of 31) from the field prior to
intermission and made 26 turnovers in the contest.
Ashley Busque led Farmington with 11 points, while Caitlyn Laflin
pitched in eight points.
The two teams battled over the opening 10 minutes before the Polar
Bears ripped off a 9-0 run over a minute span -- capped by a Cote
3-pointer -- to take command of the game at 20-7 with 9:32 until
halftime. After back-to-back layups by Farmington cooled Bowdoin,
the Polar Bears went on another 9-0 stretch to expand the lead to
29-11 and take a 37-20 command into intermission.
Another 9-0 run in the second half allowed the Polar Bears to
expand the lead to 25 points and the visitors held the Beavers
scoreless over the final 5:19 of the game to roll to the 78-41
victory.
