WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team
lost their NESCAC opener at Colby on Saturday, 65-55. The victory
for the Mules was the 600th in the career of head coach Dick
Whitmore (Bowdoin '65). Colby moves to 10-4 overall this year.
The Polar Bears led 21-13 at one point in the first half and
shot 62 percent from the field and had a 15-9 rebounding edge in
the opening 20 minutes. However, Colby did not commit a turnover in
the first half and managed to take a 32-31 lead at the break.
The Mules never trailed in the second half, but Bowdoin stayed
close and only trailed 48-47 with 6:19 to play after a Paul Sellew
3-point shot. Colby's Justin Sherman was clutch down the
stretch, nailing a 3-point shot with 5:43 to play and then hitting
a jumper with 4:27 to go for a 53-47 Colby lead. Adam Choice added
a 3-point play with 3:09 to play for a 56-47 lead.
Mike Hauser led the Polar Bears with 12 points and eight assists.
Tim Lane and Will Hanley both had eight points.
