FARMINGTON, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's basketball team
pulled away in the second half of a 61-48 victory at Maine
Farmington on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears improve to 10-3
overall this season.
The Polar Bears forged a 22-9 lead 15 minutes into the contest,
but the Beavers responded. Trailing by 11, Farmington closed out
the final 2:35 of the opening half with a 9-2 stretch, finished by
a DJ Gerrish 3-pointer, to cut the lead to 28-24 going into
intermission.
The Bowdoin lead dwindled to one point with the hosts bidding to
tie or take the advantage when the Polar Bears distanced themselves
with a 9-2 run for a 39-31 lead with 11:37 left in the second half.
Sellew scored five points in the stretch. Farmington nibbled at the
lead, but Bowdoin followed with a 9-0 run -- highlighted by a DeFeo
three and a Phillips slam -- to build a 50-36 command with 4:49
left in the game. The lead never dipped below 12 points the rest of
the way as the Polar Bears took the 61-48 victory.
Randy Defeo led the Polar Bears with 12 points followed by Tim
Lane at 11 points and Paul Sellew at 10 points off the bench. Mark
Phillips pulled down 10 rebounds.
