BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin's Rebecca Silva scored with 13:36 left
in regulation to salvage a 1-1 tie with visiting Babson College on
Sunday afternoon. The Polar Bears stand at 1-0-1 this season while
the Beavers are 2-1-1.
After a scoreless opening period, Babson's Shir Castel finished off
a scramble in front of the goal to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at
57:47. The Beavers appeared poised to pick up just their second win
in 26 tries against the Polar Bears, thanks in great part to
goaltender Sarah Macary, who made a diving save on a Silva shot
with 15 minutes to play.
Just moments later, however, Christina Aceto won a battle in the
middle of the box and the ball game to the foot of Silva, who
buried a left-footed rocket into the net to deadlock the game at
77:24.
Neither team could find the game-winner in the two extra sessions,
with Bowdoin holding a 6-3 edge in shots in overtime. Macary
finished with nine saves, including two in overtime. Bowdoin
first-year Rachel Schwemberger made her first career start in net
and made five saves, including three in overtime.
