NEW LONDON, N.H. - Senior captain Maria Noucas scored a
season-high 16 while Leah Rubega posted her third-straight
double-double to lead the Polar Bear women's basketball team
defeated Colby-Sawyer 54-45 on Thursday evening. Bowdoin wins their
third consecutive game to improve to 6-2 overall this season. It is
the Polar Bears' 11th consecutive win over the Chargers dating back
to 1998.
The Polar Bears led through much of the first half behind the
play of Katie Bergeron and Caitlin Hynes. Bergeron scored six
points, while Hynes led her team with four rebounds and added four
points of her own.
The Chargers were able to grab their first lead of the night with
4:23 remaining in the first half, when junior Terri Duffy scored on
a lay-up. It appeared as if the Chargers were heading into the
locker room with a two point lead, until Bergeron banked in one of
her two three-pointers off the glass as the buzzer sounded, giving
the Polar Bears a 23-22 halftime advantage.
Bowdoin opened up the second half with a 6-0 run, but the Chargers
bounced right back, scoring seven unanswered points, tying the
score at 29 apiece. The Polar Bears proved to be too much for the
Chargers as they pulled away behind a 5-0 run. Leah Rubega played a
strong second half for Bowdoin as she nearly recorded a
triple-double, registering 10 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals.
It is her fifth double-double of the campaign. Noucas finished with
a game-high 14 points and Bergeron ended her night with 12
points.
Colby-Sawyer was led by Kali Coleman with 13 points, shooting 3-5
from behind the arc.
