Tufts Second-Half Rally Downs Bowdoin

BOX SCORE

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Tufts University women's soccer team scored a pair of second-half goals to rally past Bowdoin on Friday afternoon, 2-1. The Jumbos (8-5, 5-4 NESCAC) will now face the Polar Bears again in two days in the first round of the conference tournament on Sunday at Kraft Field with a 12:30 pm start time. Tufts is the #4 seed and Bowdoin (7-4-3, 4-3-2) is fifth.

The Polar Bears got on the scoreboard first when a pass by Ellery Gould was one-timed by Celeste Swain into the low right corner of the goal in the 34th minute of play. The contest went to halftime with Bowdoin holding the 1-0 lead. Tufts had a 7-3 advantage in shots for the first 45 minutes.

The Jumbos struck quickly to take the lead, beginning 15 minutes into the second half. Junior Ali Maxwell scored her fifth goal of the season off a rebound, with Jenna Castellot credited with an assist. About three minutes later, Castellot beat a Bowdoin defender for a breakaway shot from just above the 18 that zipped into the low right corner of the goal.

Tufts sophomore goalkeeper Hannah Jacobs made two of her four saves late in the game after the Jumbos had taken the lead. Tufts finished with a 16-6 margin in shots, with Bowdoin's Kelly Thomas stopping six.
