Colby Drops Bowdoin For First Time Since 1996

BOX SCORE

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Colby College men's soccer team defeated Bowdoin Saturday, 3-1, earning their first win over the Polar Bears since 1996 and snapping an 11-game winless skid against their Maine rivals. The Mules, now 7-5-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the league, are 2-0-1 in conference play in the last eight days. Bowdoin falls to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the league.

Colby led 1-0 at halftime after Scott Brown tallied about 30 minutes into the first half. Todd Boertzel had a long throw-in flicked on by co-captain Tom Milaschewski to Brown, who had a left-footed strike for the goal.

The Mules made it 2-0 at 52:42 of the second half when Logan King had a bending direct kick go off the bar and in. Bowdoin bounced back at 64:55 when Ben Denton-Schneider won a battle in the box with some Colby defenders and scored off an assist from Eddie Jones.

The Polar Bears had a defensive miscue on Colby's final goal at 74:18. First-year forward Josh Lyvers took advantage and went in on a breakaway for his team-best seventh goal of the season.

Dan Marden had five saves for Colby. Dan Hicks made three stops for the Polar Bears, who had a 17-11 shot advantage.
