BANGOR, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's soccer team extended
their winning streak to three games with a 3-1 victory at Husson on
Tuesday afternoon. The Polar Bears move above .500 this season
(5-4) while the Eagles drop to 7-6 on the year.
Bowdoin took a one-goal lead at intermission thanks to consistent
pressure in their offensive zone. Holding an 11-3 edge in shots in
the opening period, one of those efforts deflected off the leg of
Husson's Josh Bartlett and into the goal in the 24th minute.
The Polar Bears extended their lead to 2-0 just eight minutes after
the break, as Nick Powell played a short corner and got the ball
back. On his way towards the goal he found Nichols in front of the
net for the score. Husson was able to trim the lead to 2-1 with
just under five minutes to play when Justin Gavin drilled a shot
from outside the box, but Bowdoin responded just moments later as
Ben Denton-Schneider found Powell for an insurance tally in the
87th minute.
Dan Hicks stopped five shots for the Polar Bears while Brad Ala
made eight stops in defeat for Husson. The Polar Bears will return
to action Saturday at noon at home against Trinity.
