NEW LONDON, Conn. - Ellery Gould netted two goals Saturday, leading
Bowdoin College (5-1-3, 3-1-2) to a 4-1 victory at Connecticut
College (4-5, 0-5) in NESCAC women's soccer action played on Tempel
Green. Sophomore Rebecca Silva chipped in with a goal and an assist
for the Polar Bears, who extended their unbeaten streak to five
games with Saturday's triumph.
The Polar Bears grabbed an early lead in the eighth minute of play.
Dana Riker was able to control Silva's corner and score, putting
the visitors on top 1-0. Gould doubled the lead in the 14th minute,
breaking free in a one-on-one situation for her sixth goal of the
season.
With 15:07 to play in the half, Palatino induced a turnover, prying
the ball away from the Bowdoin keeper. Palatino's score halved the
visitors lead and it was a 2-1 contest. But the Polar Bears
answered in the 41st minute. Gould scored on a deep blast from
about 25 yards out and the visitors carried a 3-1 lead into the
break.
Silva added an insurance goal in the 60th minute of action and the
visitors were able to keep the Camels off the scoreboard, securing
the 4-1 victory. The Camels and Polar Bears were an even 18-to-18
in shots but Bowdoin enjoyed a sizable 8-to-3 advantage in corner
kicks.
Kelly Thomas finished with five saves in the victory for the
visitors. Junior Jenna Ross had four saves for the Camels.
