BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team
has earned a first-round bye and will host the winner of Alvernia
College and Brockport State in a second-round NCAA matchup on
Saturday, March 5. Complete ticket information will be posted on
Bowdoin's website Monday afternoon.
The Polar Bears, the NESCAC Champions, have been moved out of
the New England region and are in a bracket that includes Scranton,
Messiah and Oswego State- all who have earned first-round byes. The
winner of the Saturday contest at Bowdoin will play the winner of
Oswego State vs. Washington & Jefferson/William Smith winner at
a site to-be-determined.
Two other NESCAC teams earned bids to the 2005 Championship
Tournament. Bates College will stay in the New England region and
will host the winner of the Emmanuel/Salem State first-round game
next Saturday in Lewiston. Wesleyan (Conn.) also earned an at-large
bid and will play in a first-round game this week against Chestnut
Hill.
A fourth Bowdoin-Bates matchup can only occur if the squads meet
in the NCAA Championship or Consolation game.
