BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's basketball team,
ranked fifth in the latest national poll, defeated Wesleyan
University this evening in their NESCAC-opener. With the victory,
the Polar Bears tied the school record for consecutive wins (11)
and continue the program's best-ever start to a season (11-0). The
Cardinals fall to 10-4 with the loss.
A tightly-played first half saw both teams combine for 27
tournovers. Bowdoin stretched the lead to double-digits briefly
before Wesleyan closed to 26-20 at the intermission. The decisive
stretch in the game occurred in the first five minutes after
halftime, as the Polar Bears held the Cardinals scoreless for the
first 5:50 of the second half. Bowdoin ripped off a 10-0 run during
that span, putting the game away.
Lora Trenkle had 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting for Bowdoin,
while Kristi Royer scored 13 and added six steals in the victory.
Nora Bowman and Kamica Lewis both scored a dozen for Wesleyan.
