Fran O'Leary

In August of 2005, Fran O'Leary was named the seventh head coachin the history of the Bowdoin men's soccer program. One of the mostdistinguished coaches in collegiate soccer, O'Leary brought hiswealth of experience and talent to Bowdoin's already stellartradition and posted an impressive 74-39-14 record and two NCAATournament berths in his first seven campaigns.

The Polar Bears posted two of their best seasons under O'Learyin 2009 and 2010, earning an 11-4-2 mark and reaching the NCAADivision III Tournament for the first time since '03 in 2009. Theythen followed it up with the best year in school history in 2010,carding a program-record 15 wins, NCAA Regional hosting rights andthe team's first-ever berth in the Division III "Final Four". As aresult, O'Leary was tabbed the NSCAA Regional Coach of theYear.

O'Leary is no stranger to Division III soccer, having startedhis career at Elmira (N.Y.) College, where he posted a stellar38-11-2 mark from 1989-1991. In 1992, he became the head man atKenyon (Ohio) College, where he posted a 32-4-4 record and led thesquad to a berth in the 1993 NCAA Semifinals. After being named theGreat Lakes Regional Coach of the Year, he earned his firstDivision I head job at Dartmouth.

O'Leary guided the Big Green to a 56-48-14 record and two NCAACollege Cup appearances in his seven seasons, including a 12-6record and Ivy League runner-up finish in 2000. Dartmouth was10-4-4 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 1997as O'Leary was named Division I Coach of the Year by the NewEngland Intercollegiate Soccer League.

The Dublin, Ireland native continued to build his reputation atDivision I George Mason as the Patriots became contenders in theColonial Athletic Association during his tenure. His four-yearstint was highlighted by an 11-6-6 campaign in 2003, as the teamreached double figures in victories for the first time since 1998and reached the CAA Tournament Championship game.

A graduate of Thomas Edison State College, O'Leary began hiscoaching career as an assistant coach at Boston College and NewHampshire and holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma in additionto his UEFA "A" Level License. He is currently taking his UEFA ProLicense under the Scottish Football Association.
