Eric Westerfield joined the Bowdoin coaching staff in the summer of 2013. Westerfield coaches the defensive line and is the academic coordinator for the Polar Bears. Most recently an assistant coach at The Citadel, Westerfield has 17 years of coaching experience, including stops at Harvard, Ohio Northern and Methodist (N.C.). He has specialized in defensive line coaching and recruiting and has had success at every stop, including the nation's second-ranked defense and an Ivy League Championship at Harvard in 2004 and The Citadel's first winning season in 15 years in 2007. Westerfield is a 1992 graduate of Hamilton College, where he was a four-year starter and two-year captain at defensive tackle. He twice earned First Team All-NESCAC honors and was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year by the league in 1991. He graduated from Hamilton with a degree in Government.
