One of the premiere players of her era in New England small
college basketball, Laura Schultz was an unmatched offensive force
while at Bowdoin and is still the only player in the
program’s rich history to lead the team in scoring four
consecutive years. The owner of three of the program’s top
six single-season scoring averages, she averaged nearly two points
per game more than any other player in school history and shattered
the school’s career scoring record by more than 300 points.
Twice she captained the Polar Bears to the ECAC Championship game,
helping the team win its first-ever title in 1994-95 and setting
the stage for a program that would soon rise to national
prominence. As a senior in 1995-96, Schultz averaged 18.4 points,
5.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.6 steals and was named First Team
All-ECAC, All-NESCAC and the New England Small College Athletic
Conference Player of the Year.
