Quite simply one of the finest two-sport athletes in school
history, Heather Hawes was one of Division III’s top lacrosse
and field hockey players during her time at Bowdoin and
accomplished the exclusive feat of becoming a First Team
All-American in two different sports. Hawes twice led the
women’s lacrosse team in scoring and three times paced the
field hockey squad and still ranks among the top-five all-time
scorers in both program’s distinguished record books. Among
her innumerable honors were three All-American awards, a First Team
All-Region and First Team All-NESCAC award in women’s
lacrosse. In field hockey, she was a NESCAC Player of the Year as
well as multiple-time All-NESCAC and All-Region honoree in addition
to her First Team All-American laurel. In the process, she laid the
groundwork for a pair of programs that would thrust to national
prominence in the decade following her graduation.
