Nordic Skiing Training Sites
Bowdoin's nordic ski team uses a large network of safe,
well-paved roads for rollerskiing in the greater Brunswick area, as
well as excellent running trails near campus and at Bradbury
Mountain State Park. Bowdoin's proximity to the ocean and several
rivers gives skiers access to many off-season training options,
such as kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and surfing. On-campus
facilities include a room dedicated to ski training, complete with
a wide variety of strength training equipment: rollerboards,
exergenies, converted rowing ergometers, medicine balls, and physio
balls.
During the winter, the team trains at Pineland Farms, a
world-class trail system located 30 minutes south of Brunswick. The
Pineland trails offer some of the best skiing in New England. Due
to immaculate trail maintenance, Pineland can open with minimal
snow, and often has excellent conditions when other areas have
little or no skiing. We also have a groomed 2km loop around
Bowdoin's athletic fields, allowing our skiers easy access to
on-snow training.
