BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team took command in the second half of an 18-8 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Ryan Field.

The Polar Bears (14-5) advance to the third round of the championship where they will face The College of New Jersey next Saturday. Stevens (14-6) finishes their year with the setback after making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011.

Game Highlights

• The teams traded goals in a tightly-played first half.
• Stevens scored the first goal of the game, off the stick of Cami Santor, and got consecutive scores from Kyra Bednarski and Emily Shanklin to hold a 3-2 edge less than ten minutes into the contest.
• Hannah Hirschfeld sparked a 3-0 Bowdoin run with a man-down goal at 17:37, giving the hosts a 5-3 advantage with under ten minutes left in the half.
• Stevens trimmed the lead to a single goal on two occasions late in the period, but Bowdoin rolled off back-to-back goals from Eliza Denious and Alexandra Logan to take an 8-5 lead at halftime.
• The Ducks stayed within striking distance early in the second half, cutting the Polar Bear lead to two goals, the second of which came off a Hannah Condren goal that made it 9-7 Bowdoin with 20:41 to go.
• The Polar Bears then exploded for eight straight goals in a span of 10:45 to put the game into running time.
• Elizabeth Growney sparked the run with a goal and two assists to quickly push the lead to 12-7. Katie Miller put home back-to-back goals to make it 14-7.
• When Hannah Hirschfeld scored with 7:37 remaining for Bowdoin, the Polar Bears held a 17-7 lead, putting the game out of reach.

• Eliza Denious paced Bowdoin with a four-goal effort while Hannah Hirschfeld (three goals, two assists) and Elizabeth Growney (two goals, three assists) had five-point days.
