BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team
scored 11 unanswered goals en route to a 16-7 win over Wheaton on
Tuesday evening. The Polar Bears snap a three-game losing streak
and stand at 2-3 this season. Wheaton falls to 1-3 overall.
Katie Herter led all scorers with five goals and an assist for
Bowdoin. Katie Stewart and Celeste Swain added three goals apiece
for the Polar Bears. Wheaton was led by two goals and three assists
from Hailey Colburn.
Tied at five apiece after Katie Powers and Chrissy Norberg scored
consecutive goals for Wheaton with under eight minutes left in the
first half, Bowdoin rolled off five straight before intermission to
carry a 10-5 lead into the break. The Polar Bears continued to roll
in the second half, scoring the first six markers of the period to
open up an 11-goal advantage.
Stephanie Hoomis (37:47 min., nine goals) made seven saves and
split time with Marianna Macellino (22:13 min., seven goals)
stopped four shots for the Lyons. Tara Connolly made five saves and
allowed five goals in 50 minutes of play for Bowdoin. Alexandra
Brown made a save and permitted two goals in the final ten
minutes.
Bowdoin held a 15-10 edge in draw controls and posted a 34-16
advantage in shots. Playing in torrential rain throughout the game,
the squads combined to commit 52 turnovers.
