BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team
stifled Wheaton on Wednesday, dealing the Lyons their first loss of
the season in a 14-3 non-conference victory. The Polar Bears stand
at 4-3 this season while Wheaton drops to 3-1 on the year.
Tied at one in the early going, Bowdoin used a three-goal spurt,
keyed by a Christina Denitzio goal, to take a 4-1 lead with 15
minutes remaining in the half. After Brittany Whynot closed the gap
to 4-2 with 6:52 left in the half, Ingrid Oelschlager scored for
the Polar Bears to give the hosts a 5-2 edge at the break.
Bowdoin put the game away with a decisive seven-goal run to open
the second period. First-year McKenna Teague scored three goals in
the run and finished with a game-high four goals. Oelschlager ended
with three goals for Bowdoin, while Katy Dissinger and Lindsay
McNamara each had two goals and an assist. Steph Collins-Finn
stopped seven shots in goal for the Polar Bears. Whynott scored a
pair of goals for Wheaton. Marianna Macellino stopped 14 shots in
the loss for the Lyons.
