In August of 2005, Fran O'Leary was named the seventh head coach in the history of the Bowdoin men's soccer program. One of the most distinguished coaches in collegiate soccer, O'Leary brought his wealth of experience and talent to Bowdoin's already stellar tradition and posted an impressive 36-21-3 record in his first four campaigns.
O'Leary is no stranger to Division III soccer, having started his career at Elmira (N.Y.) College, where he posted a stellar 38-11-2 mark from 1989-1991. In 1992, he became the head man at Kenyon (Ohio) College, where he posted a 32-4-4 record and led the squad to a berth in the 1993 NCAA Semifinals. After being named the Great Lakes Regional Coach of the Year, he earned his first Division I head job at Dartmouth.
O'Leary guided the Big Green to a 56-48-14 record and two NCAA College Cup appearances in his seven seasons, including a 12-6 record and Ivy League runner-up finish in 2000. Dartmouth was 10-4-4 and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 1997 as O'Leary was named Division I Coach of the Year by the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League.
The Dublin, Ireland native continued to build his reputation at Division I George Mason as the Patriots became contenders in the Colonial Athletic Association during his tenure. His four-year stint was highlighted by an 11-6-6 campaign in 2003, as the team reached double figures in victories for the first time since 1998 and reached the CAA Tournament Championship game.
A graduate of Thomas Edison State College, O'Leary began his
coaching career as an assistant coach at Boston College and New
Hampshire and holds a NSCAA Advanced National Diploma in addition
to his UEFA "A" Level License.
A 1996 graduate of Bowdoin College, Coach Jacobs joined Coach
O'Leary's staff before the 2007 season. A four-year starter in the
midfield for then-coach Tim Gilbride, he finished his career with
five goals and eight assists. A native of Denver, he returned to
the Rocky Mountain state after graduation and became a staff coach
for the Colorado Storm club team from 1998-2004. He then served a
two-year stint as assistant director of High School Boys Soccer
Development at the Colorado Soccer Academy. A member of the NSCAA,
he holds a national diploma and also serves on the association's
Native American Coaches Committee.
Mike Healy has been an assistant Bowdoin men’s soccer
coach since 2001.Healy is a graduate of Brown University where he
played soccer and lacrosse earning All-Ivy, All New England and All
American honors in lacrosse. He is a member of the Brown Sports
Hall of Fame. Healy coached the Brown freshman soccer team for two
years, the Boston University freshman team for three years, Maine
high school varsity soccer for six years and ten years for the
Seacoast United Maine soccer club. Mike now serves as President of
the club. In 2001 he was recognized by the United States Youth
Soccer Association as the Region 1 coach of the year. He holds an
NSCAA Advanced National diploma.
