Polar Bears Set School Record For Wins, Finish NESCAC Season Unbeaten

LEWISTON, Maine - The Bowdoin College volleyball team concluded a perfect NESCAC regular season with a 3-1 (25-14, 25-16, 24-26, 25-15) win over Trinity in its regular season finale on Saturday at Bates. The victory gives the 2011 Polar Bears the school record for single-season wins (23-2) and is the first time a NESCAC team has gone 10-0 in conference play since 2008.

Bowdoin, who clinched the top seed for the upcoming NESCAC tournament on Friday night, will host the NESCAC Tournament next weekend, November 4-6 at Morrell Gymnasium. The Polar Bears will play eighth-seeded Colby in a quarterfinal match on Friday evening. Complete match-ups and game times will be announced Saturday evening on www.nescac.com.

On Saturday against the Bantams, Bowdoin used their patented balanced attack to earn the win. Kristin Hanczor had 13 kills and three blocks while Tory Edelman earned 11 kills and two aces in the win. Melissa Haskell had seven kills and 13 digs while Taylor Vail led the squad with 17 digs for the contest. Sophia Cornew earned 38 assists to spark the Polar Bear attack.

The 23 wins by the Polar Bears this season break the mark of 22 formerly held by the 1988 team, led by long-time Bowdoin coach Lynn Ruddy.
