Bowdoin Sets Record For Conference Wins With Victory Over Middlebury

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team remained unbeaten in conference play with an exciting 3-2 (24-26, 25-5, 25-23, 19-25, 17-15) win over Middlebury on Friday evening at Colby.

25th-ranked Bowdoin wins its 16th consecutive match and improves to 17-1 this fall (7-0 NESCAC) and sets a new program record for most conference wins in a season. The Panthers drop to 11-6 (3-3 NESCAC) with the loss.

After losing the opening set, Bowdoin rallied in the second in a dominating 25-5 performance. The Polar Bears got one set closer to victory with a 25-23 win in the third, but Middlebury rebounded to take the fourth 25-19. The Panthers had several chances to clinch the win after going up 14-9 in the fifth set, but the Polar Bears scored six straight to take a 15-14 lead. Middlebury tied it at 15-15, but then netted a serve. A net infraction by the Panthers sealed the win for Bowdoin.

Kristin Hanczor had 12 kills and eight blocks while Tory Edelman racked up 11 kills, five blocks and two aces for Bowdoin. Melissa Haskell racked up 11 kills, two aces and 14 digs. Sophia Cornew had 40 assists while Taylor Vail earned 26 digs.

Bowdoin will play Amherst on Saturday at Colby at 11:00 a.m.
