Bowdoin Earns Season-Opening Split at Endicott Invitational

BEVERLY, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's volleyball team split a pair of season-opening matches on Friday evening at the Endicott Invitational. The Polar Bears blanked Schreiner (Texas) in their early match, 3-0 (27-25, 25-10, 25-20) before falling to nationally-ranked UMass-Boston later in the evening, 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 22-25, 25-23).

The Polar Bears were led by 11 kills from Kristin Hanczor against Schreiner. In the loss to UMass-Boston, Hanczor and Melissa Haskell had 12 kills each while Jillian Berkman notched 26 digs. Sophia Cornew sparked the Bowdoin attack with 42 assists in the setback.

Bowdoin will play two more matches at Endicott on Saturday. The Polar Bears will battle Plymouth State at 1:00 p.m. before taking on St. Mary's (Minnesota) at 3:00 p.m.
