Polar Bears To Compete at NCAA Track & Field On Friday

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Two Bowdoin College relay teams will compete at the NCAA Division III Championship beginning on Friday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, Massachusetts.


The Polar Bears will send their women's 4x400 meter relay team and women's distance medley relay team to the championship. The 4x400 qualified as the 12th ranked entry with Emma Beane '20, Morgen Gallagher '20, Samantha Schaefer '19 and Sara Ory '19. The squad broke Bowdoin's school record last Saturday when they ran 3:45.83 at the Tufts National Qualifier meet. The 4x400 meter trials will be held Friday night at 8:05 with the finals scheduled for Saturday evening.

The DMR qualified as the ninth-seeded team for nationals with Delaney Bullock '22, Sara Ory '19, Claire Traum '21 and Caroline Shipley '20. The distance medley relay team ran 11:54 on Saturday in the National Qualifier meet at Tufts University. The team will compete in the national championship race on Friday, March 8, at 8:45 p.m. 

Ory, Traum and Shipley were All-Americans in the 2018 distance medley relay that took first place in Birmingham, Alabama. Ory was also an All-American in the 400 hurdles in May of 2019.  Bullock participated in the NCAA championship in cross-country in the fall of 2018. This is the first trip to the nationals for Beane, Gallagher, and Schaefer.
