Women's Soccer Blanks Bates to Complete Weekend Sweep

LEWISTON, Maine – The Bowdoin women's soccer team scored a goal in each half as they defeated Bates on Sunday afternoon, 2-0.

The Polar Bears picked up their second win in as many days and improve to 6-6-1 (2-5-1 NESCAC) while the Bobcats fall to 2-10-1 (0-8-0 NESCAC).

Match Highlights

  • The Polar Bears were on the attack early on, forcing Bates first-year goalie Elizabeth Crawford to make two saves in the opening six minutes. Over the first 15 minutes Bowdoin had outshot Bates 5-0 and earned three corner kicks.
  • Bowdoin's first goal of the game came in the 15th minute when the ball was poked in the outside penalty area by a Bates defender to Jamie Lau, who one-timed a looping shot just under the crossbar for a 1-0 Bowdoin lead. The goal was Lau's third of the season.
  • Bowdoin finished out the half with a 9-2 edge in shots and 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
  • The Polar Bears doubled their lead in the 66th minute as Morgen Gallagher's shot from point blank was tipped away by Crawford, leaving the ball for Lynn Farquhar on the follow into an unguarded net for her second goal of the season.
