BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's rugby team earned a hard-fought road win at the University of New England on Saturday afternoon, 27-12.

The Polar Bears improve to 6-2 this fall and secure the number two seed and a NIRA D-3 semifinal home game on November 9.

Match Highlights

  • Amber Ramos opened the scoring in the eighth minute with a pick and go move off the ruck, bursting through two defenders to score near the corner. 5-0.
  • UNE answered with pressure of their own and both teams traded possession and territory back and forth for the majority of the half. The Nor'easters took the lead with 22 minutes to go in the period with a try and conversion, 7-5.
  • Late in the half, Bowdoin's forwards moved the ball upfield where Sage Kashner finished it off with a try near the post and then added their own conversion giving the Polar Bears a 12-7 lead at the break.
  • The second half opened with much of the same before Bowdoin took command. A pair of tries by Ashlynn Autrey sandwiched around a UNE score increased Bowdoin's lead to 22-12 with ten minutes remaining.
  • Ella Garnett polished off the day with a last-minute try for Bowdoin to secure the 27-12 victory.
