Women's Rugby Hosts Polar Bear 7s Tournament

BRUNSWICK, Maine – The Bowdoin College women's rugby team hosted the Polar Bear 7s Tournament on a rainy Saturday at Pickard Field.

With action competing in three different tiers, the Polar Bears had teams in both the Tier 2 and Tier 3 divisions on the day.

Highlights

  • In Tier 2 action, Bowdoin defeated UNE 10-5, Colby 17-0, Middlebury 15-7 and lost to Colby Sawyer 27-12.
  • Co-Captain Liz D'Angelo led the attack, anchored the defensive wall, scored one try and converted two kicks.
  • Top defenders on the day were Sophia Karris, Sara Nelson, Satya Kent and Liz D'Angelo.
  • Try-scorers:   Mackenzie Philbrick'20 (2), Molly Petronzio'22 (2), Sophia Karris'22 (2), Alice Hawkins'22 (1), Sierra Sohgikian (1), D'Angelo and Brooke Berry'22 (1)
  • Bowdoin went 3-2 in Tier 3 play, defeating Colby, Northeastern before falling to UNE. In the knockout round, Bowdoin defeated UNE 17-5 before falling to Northeastern 25-15 in the final.
  • Tier 3 try-scoring for Bowdoin were Cydnie Martin, Kendra Clifton, and Alia Haskins
  • Outstanding try-saving tackles by Kendra Clifton and Alia Haskins and overall great defensive play by Lucy Noel, Clifton, Haskins and Renita Shivnauth
