BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's rugby team never trailed in a 44-5 win over the University of New Hampshire in a New England Rugby Football Union Division II playoff match Saturday at Pickard Field.

With the win, the Polar Bears advance to the New England Division II Championship Tournament that they will host next Saturday and Sunday, October 29-30. Semifinal matches will be played at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Match-ups will be announced on Sunday.

Co-captain Katie Mathews started off the scoring with some nice footwork to run it in under the posts.  Ten minutes later Dani McAvoy took a feed from Anita Shah and found the holes in the defense.  Randi London notched the conversion kick for a 12-0 lead.  Later in the first half, London broke tackles with a long run of her own and Anissa Tanksley scored from a ruck 5 meters out to give Bowdoin a 22-0 lead at intermission.

Early in the second half, London broke through the line with hard running for her second try of the match.  Athanas-Linden set this score up nicely and assisted on another for Kerry Townsend who found space and sprinted downfield.  Helen White chased down a perfectly executed kick from flyhalf Mathews  to score in the endzone and fullback Allen'14 attacked and defended very well, assisting on the seconnd Townsend try to seal the scoring.
