Polar Bears Dispatch Williams in NERFU Season Opener

AMHERST, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's rugby team pulled away in the second half of a 25-0 win over Williams in their regular season opener Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears (4-0), who have yet to allow a point in their first four matches, will play at Colby next Saturday at 11:00 a.m.

Bowdoin was able to withstand an early push by the Ephs over the first 15 minutes, and replied with the game's first score courtesy of a nice backline move from Anita Shah to take a 5-0 lead. After another defensive stop, Danielle McAvoy used a quick-tap off a penalty to give the Polar Bears a 10-0 lead at intermission. The Polar Bears took complete control in the second half and pulled away thanks to tries from Uche Esonu, Kerry Townsend and another from McAvoy.

The Polar Bears' B-side was able to play a match against the B-side from UMass-Amherst following the A-side contest. The squad used great effort on the defensive side of the ball to stay within shouting distance in a 15-0 loss.
