Women's Lacrosse Falls to Amherst in NESCAC Quarterfinals

AMHERST, Mass. – The Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team couldn't mount a late rally and fell to Amherst, 12-9, in the quarterfinals of the NESCAC Tournament on Saturday.

The Polar Bears (9-7) will have to await word on a possible NCAA Tournament bid when selections are announced on May 8. The Mammoths (12-4) advance to the conference semifinals next weekend.

Game Highlights

  • Amherst opened the game on a 3-1 run to take an early lead after ten minutes of play.
  • Bowdoin answered with a 5-1 run to end the half, sparked by a Fiona Bundy goal.
  • Katie Miller scored twice to end the surge, including a goal with just 2:21 remaining before halftime to give the Polar Bears a 6-4 lead at the half.
  • Amherst came out firing in the second half as a pair of Hannah Fox goals keyed a five-goal run over the first nine minutes, giving the Mammoths a 9-6 lead.
  • Bowdoin got within two goals on three occasions, including 11-9 with 8:27 to go on a Maggie Savage score, but could get no closer.
