Second-Ranked Norwich Uses Big Second Period to Down Bowdoin

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The second-ranked Norwich University women's ice hockey team scored three times in the second period of a 4-1 win over Bowdoin on Saturday evening at Kreitzberg Arena.

The Polar Bears close out their first semester with a record of 1-3-2 and will return to action on January 2 against Wesleyan at the UMass-Boston Codfish Bowl Tournament. The Cadets improve to 10-1-1 with the victory.

After an evenly-played scoreless first period, Norwich took the lead at 9:10 of the second frame on a power play goal by Melissa Rundlett. The Cadets took command with two goals in the span of 91 seconds late in the frame, as Renee Lortie's power play goal at 18:23 was followed by Julie Fortier's tally with just six seconds remaining in the stanza, giving the hosts a 3-0 lead. Haley Gibson scored just 51 seconds into the third period for Norwich.

Emily Tang scored Bowdoin's lone goal on the power play with 5:59 remaining. Shelagh Merrill and Stephanie Ludy earned assists on the play.

Tara Connolly made 17 saves in the loss for Bowdoin. Joanie Plamondon stopped 15 shots for the Cadets.
