Sweet Scores Twice as Bowdoin Earns Deadlock at Division I Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. - The Bowdoin College women's ice hockey team earned its first point of the season in a 5-5 deadlock at Division I Holy Cross on Saturday evening.

The Polar Bears stand at 0-1-1 this season after giving Holy Cross (7-0-1) its first blemish of the season.

Kendra Sweet had two goals for Bowdoin, who also got tallies from Stephanie Ludy, Kayte Holtz and Shelagh Merrill. Dominique Lozzi and Chelsea MacNeil had two assists each.

The Polar Bears scored three times in the opening period thanks to markers from Merrill, Ludy and Sweet. Kendra Sweet upped Bowdoin's lead to 4-2 early in the second period but Holy Cross rebounded with a power play and a shorthanded tally early in the third to tie the game.

Holtz regained the advantage for Bowdoin with a score with 18:07 remaining but Holy Cross scored with an extra attacker with just 44 seconds left to force overtime.

Bowdoin's Sage Santangelo stopped 15 shots and allowed three goals in 40 minutes before giving way to Tara Connolly, who made 14 saves over the final 25 minutes.
