Women's Hockey Alums Compete at New England Pond Hockey Festival

A number of Bowdoin women's hockey alumnae played in the New England Pond Hockey Festival in Rangeley, Maine on February 5-6. A team comprised entirely of former Polar Bears, Team Go U Bears, came away with the championship in the Women's Division with an 11-10 win over a mixed team of Colby, Harvard, and Providence alums.

More importantly, the participants raised funds in support of former Bowdoin player Kristen Cameron '08, as she recovers from spinal cord injuries suffered in the wake of a drunk driving accident.

According to Emileigh Mercer '09: "The competitive women's division this year was named the Cameron Division, in honor of Kristen, and with the help of Lacey Brown (Colby Ice Hockey Goalie '09) we raised over $1000 for The Kristen Cameron Fund. They wrote up her story on the website and in the program, and Lacey also hosted an auction with signed Washington Capitals gear. A shirt signed by Capitals player Mike Knuble was bought by one generous donor for $100 and given back to us to auction off again. Then another donor purchased it for $120 and gave it back to us to give to Kristen. That moment was the highlight of the weekend."
