BRUNSWICK, Maine – Bowdoin College junior Samantha Roy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) has been named the New England Small College Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
Roy was outstanding in a pair of NESCAC wins for the top-ranked Polar Bears, including a 65-56 victory over fourth-ranked Amherst. The point guard averaged 14.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals in the two games. She posted 13 points, six boards and five assists against the Mammoths, including a 3-pointer with 1:30 remaining to give Bowdoin a six-point lead it would never relinquish. For the week, Roy hit on 50 percent of her shots, including 3-4 from three-point range.
The junior point guard is enjoying a phenomenal campaign this season, leading the team in minutes played (26.6) while leading the conference in assists (94). In Bowdoin's last eight games, dating back to the January 5 win at Tufts, Roy has been outstanding, scoring in double-digits seven times, averaging 12.0 points, 5.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals while shooting 55% from the floor and 57% from three-point range.
Bowdoin (19-0) will return to action on Tuesday evening when they host New England College at 6:00 p.m.
