BRUNSWICK, Maine – For the first time since 2007, the Bowdoin College women's basketball team has reached the number one ranking in the NCAA Division III polls.
The Polar Bears, who finished the 2017-18 season as runners-up in the NCAA Division III Tournament, have begun the 2018-19 campaign with a 4-0 record and an average margin of victory of 43.8 points. They appear in the top spot in both the D3hoops.com and WBCA polls released this week.
Bowdoin entered the year as the number two ranked team in the polls, but rose to the top spot following top-ranked Amherst's loss last week to Eastern Connecticut. It is the sixth different time the Polar Bears have ascended to the top of the poll, but the first time since 2007 when Bowdoin entered the NCAA Tournament as the top-ranked squad and finished the year with a 30-2 mark, reaching the Elite Eight.
Head coach Adrienne Shibles and the Polar Bears will return to the court on Saturday, December 1, when they head to Waterville to play Colby at 2:00 p.m.
