Griffin, Rutz Sweep NESCAC Weekly Honors For Softball

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Bowdoin softball players Emily Griffin (Tucson, Ariz.) and Allison Rutz (Essex Junction, Vt.) have been honored by the New England Small College Athletic Conference for their performances last week in Florida.

Griffin was named the NESCAC Pitcher of the Week while Rutz captured NESCAC Player of the Week recognition for the Polar Bears, who went 7-1 in eight games and stand at 11-5 overall this spring.

A senior, Griffin collected three wins in the circle for the Polar Bears last week, sparking a six-game winning streak to end the team's Florida trip. She allowed just one earned run in 14.0 innings pitched (0.50 ERA), collecting two wins in starts and one victory in relief while striking out 14 batters and permitting just 12 hits. She also batted .407 for the week, scoring eight runs and collecting four stolen bases.

A first-year, Rutz batted .500 last week, keying a 7-1 week for the Polar Bears to close out their Florida trip. In eight games, Rutz collected 14 hits and 10 RBI, while reaching base at a .517 clip. She had six multi-hit games and also went 2-0 in the circle with a 0.44 ERA.
