Trinity Sweeps Bowdoin in NESCAC Softball Doubleheader

HARTFORD, Conn. - Trinity pitchers Kristen Anderson and Katherine Poulos tossed 12 innings and allowed just one unearned run to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a sweep of Bowdoin, 4-1 and 9-0, in NESCAC East softball action Saturday afternoon on Campus Field.  Trinity improves to 11-6 (2-1 NESCAC) on the season, while Bowdoin drops to 6-13 (1-2 NESCAC).

A day after getting one-hit by the Polar Bears, the Trinity offense responded with 13 runs in 11 offensive innings, again led by senior co-captain Katherine Stoltenberg, who picked up a pair of hits and a pair of runs in each game today. Amy Hackett and Caroline Dewar had two hits apiece in the doubleheader for the Polar Bears.

Trinity got off to a 2-0 start in the first inning of Game 1, highlighted by an RBI single by first-year Abigail Ostrom.  Bowdoin cut the lead to 2-1 in the top of the fifth inning when sophomore Gen Barlow walked to lead off the inning, and later came around to score on a Bantam error.  Trinity responded in the bottom half of the fifth inning with two unearned runs.  Anderson finished the job, holding the Polar Bears scoreless in the final two innings, as the Bantams gave Melissa DellaTorre the loss despite the Bowdoin first-year permitting just two earned runs and striking out six.

Game two was played in just over an hour, as Trinity scored two runs in the opening frame and piled on five in the second stanza, highlighted by a Stoltenberg RBI double and run-scoring hits by sophomore Caroline Blanchard, Ostrom, and first-year Olivia Berry. Poulos allowed just five hits in the game, en route to her second shutout of the year.  The Bantams took advantage of four Bowdoin errors to tag Kara Nilan with the loss.
