Coach Pizzo's Report - October 8

Interconference regattas continued this past weekend with a team of Polar Bears competing at The US Naval Academy in the Truxton Umsted Coed Showcase Round 1. Annapolis proved predictable with light to moderate wind and a lumpy sea state. With the goal of qualifying for Coed Showcase Finals, each division aimed to help the team finish top nine overall. Christian Filter and Julia Adams improved throughout the regatta to secure 7th in A division while Matt Safford and Marie Bergsund held steady to finish 8th in B division. Emily Gonzalez, Per Black and Chris Lukens were ready on the sidelines. Boat speed proved challenging without the wind to combat the chop but conservative sailing qualified the team for The Fiske Harriman Sleigh at Connecticut College.

Meanwhile, back in New England, light winds made for reduced racing at The George Warren Smith Trophy hosted by MIT. Teagan Cunningham, Meghan Gonzalez, Kelsey Slack, and Gigi Diserio competed in A division while Hattie Slayton, Kevin Elk, John Seider, and Elijah Berger split B division. This regatta is reminiscent of college sailing when Tech Dinghies were synonymous with Sailing at MIT and on the Charles River.

This coming weekend, the team will compete at St Mary's College of Maryland for Showcase B Finals and Match Race New England Championship will take place in Newport, RI.
