Coach Pizzo's Report - September 16

The Polar Bears competed in three events this past weekend including the Barnett Trophy at home, the Regis Trophy at Harvard and the Hatch Brown at MIT.  At Bowdoin, sixteen races were completed over the two days.  Conditions were wet and windy on Saturday and much lighter on Sunday.  The Polar Bears came on strong at the end but fell just short of overtaking Yale.  Ellie Maus and Hannah Konkel finished first overall in A division and Chris Lukens, Lizzy Kaplan, and Meghan Gonzalez competed in B-division.
The Hatch Brown at MIT was a three division event that featured the top teams in NEISA.  Conditions were similar to our home event at Bowdoin.  The Polar Bears were a bit up and down but strung together some solid races to finish fifth of 19 teams competing. Matt Safford and Julia Adams sailed in A Division with Christian Filter and Marie Bergsund in B division and Per Black, Gigi Diserio, and Kevin Elk in C division.
Just up the river, the Women's team competed at the Regis Trophy hosted by Harvard.  Bowdoin and URI lead for most of the event but the Polar Bears finished strong and won the event by seven points.  Teagan Cunningham and Emily Gonzalez finished second overall in A division and Kelsey Slack and Sophia Schaefer won B division by ten points.
This upcoming weekend the team will compete in the Mrs. Hurst at Dartmouth, the Hoyt Trophy at Brown, the Hood Trophy at Tufts, and the Harvard Invitational.
