Sailing Team Heads to ICSA Nationals in Newport Beginning Tuesday (Video)

BRUNSWICK, Maine – For the first time in program history, the Bowdoin sailing team will compete in all three national championships hosted by the Intercollegiate Sailing Association beginning next week in Newport, R.I.

The Polar Bears will compete in the Sperry Women's Nationals, the LaserPerformance Team Race Nationals and Gill Coed Nationals over the course of 11 days. Complete information can be found on the ICSA National Championship Home Page.

Championship Schedule (Live Scoring Link):
May 21-24: Sperry Women's National Championship - Action begins with the Sperry Women's Nationals as the Polar Bears will compete in the Eastern Women's Semifinals (May 21-22), with the top nine from both the east and west moving on to 18-boat regatta (May 23-24).
May 25-27: LaserPerformance Team Race National Championship – Over the course of the next three days, the Polar Bears will compete in the team race event. The first round of racing is a single round robin with all 16 teams competing against each other. The top eight from this round will advance to a single "championship" round robin followed by a "final four" round robin, which will only be sailed in Z420s. The top three teams and national champions will be determined from the final four.
May 28-31: Gill Coed National Championship – The Eastern Semifinals will take place over the first two days with the top-nine finishers advancing to the National Championship on May 30-31.

Bowdoin Competitors: Sailing for Bowdoin in Newport next week will be a huge contingent of athletes. The women's roster will be Claire Havig, Ellie Maus, Teagan Cunningham, Hannah Konkel, Caitlin Tardio, Izzy Austin-Green, Kelsey Slack, Alissa Chen and Emily Gonzelez. Sailing in the team race and coed events will be Matt Kaplan, Louisa Lindgren, Christian Filter, Matt Safford, Alden Grimes, Marie Bergsund, Julia Adams, Alissa Chen, Emily Gonzalez, John Seider, Elijah Berger and Eric Hall.
