Coach Pizzo's Report - April 1

The Polar Bears competed in three regattas this past weekend including the Harpswell Sound Team Race at home, the Dellenbaugh Trophy hosted by Brown, and the Marchiando Team Race at MIT.  At our first home event of the year, the Polar Bears finished with a record of 7-2 after three round robins, finishing second overall.  Emmett Ulian, Eliza Jevon, Kelsey Slack, Elijah Berger, John Seider, Preston Anderson, Caitlin Tardio, Kevin Elk, Gigi Diserio, and Per Black competed for the Polar Bears.

Conditions were very windy down at the Marchiando at MIT and the Dellenbaugh Trophy at Brown.  At MIT, the Polar Bears sailed in a highly competitive event, finishing with a record of 12-10.  The group struggled at times on Saturday to put full races together but made some good strides to get ready for the Team Race Championship which will be hosted by Connecticut College next weekend.  Matt Kaplan, Matt Safford, Christian Filter, Alden Grimes, Louisa Lindgren, Alissa Chen, Marie Bergsund, Elijah Berger, John Seider, and Julia Adams competed for the Polar Bears.

Finally, the women's team competed in their first fleet race interconference of the season down at Brown which featured many of the top teams in the country.  Conditions were extremely windy at times on Sunday.  The Polar Bears had a great event, finishing 9th overall out of eighteen teams.  Claire Havig, Hannah Konkel, Ellie Maus, Teagan Cunningham, Emily Gonzalez, and Isabelle Austin-Green competed for the Polar Bears.

This upcoming weekend the team will be in New London competing at the Wick Trophy at Coast Guard and the Fowle Trophy at Connecticut College.
