Coach Pizzo's Report - March 25

The Polar Bears competed in three regattas this past weekend including the Eagle Team Race at Boston College, the Friis Trophy at Roger Williams, and the Vietor Trophy at the Coast Guard Academy.  Racing was postponed at Roger Williams and Boston College on Saturday because of high winds but racing took place at the Vietor at the Coast Guard Academy.  Four races were completed in each division before a massive puff of wind came through the course at the end of the day capsizing nearly every boat.  Conditions were fabulous on the Thames River on Sunday with twelve races in each division.  The Polar Bears finished 7th of 18 teams.  Kelsey Slack, Isabelle Austin Green, Eliza Jevon, Teagan Cunningham, Kevin Elk, and Preston Anderson competed for the Polar Bears.

Two round robins were completed at the Eagle Team Race.  The Polar Bears struggled to put complete races together but the young group improved throughout the day and learned some valuable lessons.  The Polar Bears finished sixth overall at the event.  Ellie Maus, Claire Havig, John Seider, Alissa Chen, Hannah Konkel, Per Black, and Gigi Diserio competed for Bowdoin.

Finally, the Polar Bears competed at the Friis Trophy hosted by Roger Williams.  The event was highly competitive with several of the top teams in the country.  The Polar Bears started strong but lost several close races towards the end of the day, finishing with a record of 3-6.  Matt Kaplan, Louisa Lindgren, Marie Bergsund, Julia Adams, Emily Gonzalez, Matt Safford, Alden Grimes, Elijah Berger, and Christian Filter competed for the Polar Bears.  We are looking forward to starting practice this week at Bowdoin to prepare for our upcoming championships.
