Coach Pizzo's Report - October 30
The Polar Bears competed in our fall championships this weekend at home and up at Dartmouth. Both venues experienced challenging weather conditions.
At Bowdoin, sixteen teams competed at the Victorian Urn Trophy. Saturday was cold and very windy with sleet, rain, and snow. Eight races were completed in each division. Sunday started off equally wet and cold. Eventually the rain stopped six more races were competed in breeze that ranged from northeast to south. The best women's teams in the country are in NEISA and the Urn was highly competitive. The Polar Bears were a bit up and down at the Urn but ultimately finished tenth overall. Claire Havig '21, Hannah Konkel '20, Teagan Cunningham '22, and Sophia Schaefer '22 competed in A-division with Kelsey Slack '21, Caitlin Tardio '19, Ellie Maus '22, and Isabell Austin-Green '19 competed in B-division.
Conditions were colder up at Dartmouth but not nearly as windy. Fourteen races completed in each division over the two day regatta. The wind was in and out of Lake Mascoma all weekend which made for some very tricky light air races. The Polar Bears finished the regatta strong and ended up sixth of the eighteen teams competing. Sailing for Bowdoin was Matt Kaplan '19, Louisa Lindgren '19, Matt Safford '20, Julia Adams '21, Christian Filter '20, Alden Grimes '21, and Alissa Chen '22.
