Coach Pizzo's Report - September 24

The Polar Bears competed in five events this weekend, likely our busiest weekend of the season.  Racing was great at every regatta with windy conditions.  The breeze was much less stable on Sunday which prevented much racing from taking place across New England.

Up at Dartmouth, conditions were cold and windy on Lake Mascoma on Saturday at the Mrs. Hurst Bowl.  Ellie Maus '22 and Isabell Austin-Green '19 competed in A-division with Teagan Cunningham '22 and Caitlin Tardio '19 competing in B-division.  The team was working on starting and boatspeed and gained valuable experience in a highly competitive fleet.  The team finished 15th overall.

Down in Newport, Rowan Byrne '21, Kelsey Slack '21, John Seider '22, and Peter Newstein '19 competed in the North U Clinic.  The group gained lots of boathandling and starting experience match racing in windy conditions and the team should be well prepared for the upcoming Match Race New England Champs at Corinthian YC October 13-14.

The Hood Trophy at Tufts featured eleven teams sailing combined divisions in Larks.  With twenty-two boats on the race course at the same time, there was plenty of action on the challenging and shifty Mystic Lake.  The Polar Bears struggled at times but had a stronger Sunday, finishing 7th overall.  Christian Filter '20 sailed with Gigi Diserio '22 in A-division with Claire Havig '21 and Sophia Schaefer '22 in B-division.

At the Norm Reid at Boston College, the Polar Bears finished 9th overall in a wide range of conditions on Boston Harbor.  Per Black '22 and Julia Adams '21 sailed A division with Emmett Ulian '19, Emily Davis '21, Preston Anderson '22, and Kevin Elk '20 competing in B-division.

The top in conference regatta of the weekend was the Hoyt Trophy at Brown.  Eleven races were completed in each division.  Matt Safford '20 and Louisa Lindgren '19 competed in A-division with Alden Grimes '21, Elijah Berger '21, and Alissa Chen '22 competing in B-division.  The team finished second overall with Grimes, Berger, and Chen winning B-division.

This upcoming weekend will be the Danmark Trophy and the Women's Showcase at St. Marys.
