Coach Pizzo's Report - April 30

The Polar Bears competed at the New England Dinghy Champs for the Coast Guard Alumni Bowl at Brown University this past weekend.  Eighteen teams competed for eight spots of the ICSA National Championship in May.  Saturday had terrific sailing conditions with the breeze out of SW at 10-20 knots.  Ten races were completed in each division, leaving the Polar Bears in 9th place overall.

Sunday had much lighter breeze and we were postponed until noon.  Eventually four more races were completed in each division.  The Polar Bears struggled a bit on the starting line on Sunday but a strong final race in A-division left the Polar Bears one point behind 8th place overall with Bowdoin, BU, and Brown all in the hunt.  BU prevailed in the deciding race with Bowdoin finishing 10th overall.  A huge effort by the entire team including Matt Kaplan, Louisa Lindgren, Marie Bergsund, Matt Safford, Christian Filter, Alden Grimes, Harrison Hawk, Jake Griffin, and Emily Gonzalez.

After the regatta, Matt Kaplan was named to the All NEISA Skippers Second Team.
