Coach Pizzo's Report - April 23

This past weekend, the Polar Bears competed in three regattas including the Morris Trophy at BU, the Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup at MIT, and the Women's New England Championship for the Jerry Reed Trophy.

At the Morris Trophy, twelve races were completed in each division in breeze from the NW ranging from 5-15 knots.  The Polar Bears finished third overall with Alex Vasiliou '18 and Jake Griffin '18 competing in A-division and Alden Grimes '21 and Julia Adams '21 competed in B-division.  Conditions were very similar at the three division Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup hosted by MIT.  The Polar Bears were back and forth with BU for nearly the entire event but ultimately finished second overall.  Matt Kaplan '19 and Marie Bergsund '20 competed in A-division, Harrison Hawk '18 and Emily Gonzalez '20 sailed B-division, and Matt Safford '20 and Hannah Konkel '20 competed in C-division.

Down at Coast Guard, the team battled challenging conditions all weekend at the Reed Trophy.  Nine races were competed in each division in breeze ranging from NE to SW.  Claire Havig '21 and Nora Cullen '18 sailed A-division with Kelsey Slack '21, Isabelle Austin-Green '19, and Martie Ogle '18 competed in B-division with Eliza Jevon '21 as a reserve.  The team was a bit up and down throughout the weekend but learned some valuable lessons that will pay off in the future.

The Polar Bears have their final regular season event this upcoming weekend at Brown for the New England Dinghy Champs.
