BRUNSWICK, Maine - Three Bowdoin College nordic skiers are headed to Colorado to compete in the NCAA Championship beginning Thursday, March 8 at Howelson Hill in Steamboat Springs.
It has been an historic season for the Polar Bears, who are sending a program-record three skiers to nationals, all first years: Renae Anderson, Gabrielle Vandendries and Elliot Ketchel. The classical races open the Nordic events on Thursday, March 8, with the women's 5-kilometer race at 9 a.m. and men's 10k at 10:30 a.m. The freestyle races will finish off the NCAA meet on Saturday, March 10: the men are first with their 20-kilometer run at 9 a.m., with the women's 15k to follow at 11 a.m. Flower ceremonies follow each event, and the awards presentation is set for about Noon on Saturday. Polar Bear Qualifiers
- Elliot Ketchel enjoyed one of the finest-ever seasons by a Polar Bear skier, taking two podium finishes and eight top-ten showings. He earned a second-place finish at the Chummy Broomhall Cup (Maine State Championship) and his top EISA finish was an third-place showing in the 10k classic at the NCAA Regional/Middlebury Carnival
- Gabrielle Vandendries took fourth at the Maine State Championship and peaked down the stretch to earn an NCAA bid. She took seventh in the 5k classic at the Dartmouth Carnival and followed it up with an eighth-place showing at the NCAA Regional in the 5k classic two weeks ago.
- Renae Anderson's consistency earned her a trip to nationals this winter. She claimed a third-place showing at the Chummy Cup with her top EISA Carnival showing coming at Dartmouth, where she placed eighth in the 5k classic.
