Polar Bears Boast Six Winners at State Championship Meet

LEWISTON, Maine - The Bowdoin College men's outdoor track and field team placed second at the 112th Maine State Championship Saturday hosted at Bates' Russell Street Track. The Polar Bears, who claimed six individual first-place finishes, totaled 175 points to trail only Bates (251) and defeat Colby (108) and Southern Maine (76).

Chris Martin won the state crown in the long jump (21-6) while Sam Chick placed first in the triple jump (43-9 3/4). In the track events, Bowdoin earned victories in the 10,000 meter run thanks to Stan Berkow (32:48.83), the 3,000 meter steeplechase by James Boeding (9:35.64), the 800 meter run courtesy of Colin Fong (1:58.25) and the 200 meter dash by David Bean (22.90).

The Polar Bears will return to action at the NESCAC Championship hosted by Wesleyan University next Saturday.
